Chrono-nutrition: Time Your Meals for Better Metabolic Health

This article is a summary of the published research study: Chrono-nutrition for the prevention and treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes: from mice to men

Obesity and type 2 diabetes are rapidly increasing health concerns, and current recommendations for lifestyle changes have had limited success in reducing their incidence. One reason for this is the difficulty in making long-term dietary changes in the face of round-the-clock access to unhealthy food. To address this, innovative approaches are needed to modify dietary habits and mitigate the negative effects of our modern lifestyle on circadian biology. Recognizing the significant impact of meal timing on physiological and metabolic processes, we explore chrono-nutrition, which involves altering the timing of food intake to optimize the feeding-fasting cycle. By aligning nutrient intake with metabolic rhythms, chrono-nutrition aims to improve whole-body insulin sensitivity, glycaemic control, and overall metabolic health.
